Scott Aldrich
Head Varsity

Coach Aldrich:
The 2013-2014 season marks Coach Aldrich’s 10th year with the Shawnee Mission West Girls’ Basketball Team, and his fourth year as Head Coach. Previously, Coach Aldrich served as the Assistant Varsity/Head JV coach. During his time at SMW, the Lady Vikings have been awarded Sunflower League Champions (2009,2011), 6A Kansas State High School Tournament 2nd Place (2011), 6A Kansas State High School Tournament 3rd Place (2009), and 6A Kansas State High School Tournament 4th Place (2007).

Coach Aldrich is a 1996 graduate of SMW. He played basketball and baseball in high school, and was a member of the 1994 State Tournament basketball team. Coach Aldrich attended Kansas State University where he enjoyed playing basketball on his fraternity’s intramural team. He still tries to play basketball as often as he can with friends.

Coaches Donnie Campbell and Tim Bishop were his high school basketball coaches, and Coach Aldrich learned a lot about the game from them. He started coaching basketball at SMNW under John Reiff, whose program was continually one of the best in the Sunflower League. He also coached baseball under Todd Reed at SMW and accompanied the team to their first state tournament in over a decade.

Throughout his experiences as an athlete and coach’s assistant, Coach Aldrich has taken bits from each of his mentors to mold his own philosophy. Coach Dean Smith and Coach Roy Williams have also played an important role in influencing him as a coach, and he will stress the importance of “Playing Hard, Playing Smart, and Playing Together.”

Coach Aldrich is married to Erin, who is also a SMW graduate. They have two sons, Jacob (7), and Kellen (5). In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Aldrich enjoys spending time with his family, rooting for the Royals and the Wildcats, and keeping up on the latest in technology.
